2010 Pee Dee Air Show and Festival Schedule

The Golden Knights Drop In!

In 1959 13 men joined together to form the Strategic Army Corps Sport Parachute Team, to compete in the then communist dominated sport of skydiving. The team performed so well that on June 1, 1961 the Army officially recognized, designated and activated the team as the U.S. Army Parachute Team.

For 50 years the “Golden Knights” have been wowing audiences at air shows, competitions and most recently, with high profile tandems.

The two demonstration teams travel all over the country performing aerial demonstrations at air shows and special events in support of Army recruiting goals.

The two competition teams travel, competing nationally and internationally at various skydiving competitions, continuously bringing home gold, silver and bronze medals. They are the most successful U.S. Department of Defense sports team.

While the Tandem Team focuses on bringing the public closer to the Army and the sport of skydiving.
“The Tandem Team enables the Army to reach out to influential citizens and give them a taste of the professionalism, leadership and teamwork that is involved in giving them a tandem,” said Lt. Colonel Anthony Dill, Commander, U.S. Army Parachute Team, “Golden Knights.”

The Golden Knights not only perform at air shows, compete on an international level and perform high profile tandems they also visit high schools and work with local recruiters showing young adults what type of opportunities the Army has for them.

The Pee Dee Air Show returns to Florence on June 5-6, 2010 at the Florence Regional Airport. Be sure to mark your calendar this year, BECAUSE YOU WON’T SEE THIS SHOW AGAIN UNTIL 2012. Don’t miss the best Pee Dee Air Show ever this year – it’ll be great!

Family priced fun

Admission is the same as last year - FREE TO CHILDREN UNDER 12 and ALL MILITARY IDs. People over age 12 pay $15 at the gate. $12 discount tickets can be purchased and printed on website thru “ClickNPrint”. Discount tickets are also available at Piggly Wiggly stores in north east South Carolina through show days. FREE PARKING is included with admission.

A full day of festivities

This affordably priced, family friendly festival offers more than a thrill filled afternoon air show. There are airplane and helicopter rides, and military war birds on the static line for up close examination. Displays from classic cars and antique tractors to boats, trucks and RVs keep you entertained! There are bouncy rides for active kids and an affordable food court with a variety of good eats from meals to snack treats. The gates and flight line will open at 8 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday, and will close at 5:00 p.m. both days, with flying beginning after Noon.

PARKING:
Free parking and shuttles from the parking area to the air field are included in the gate admission price. There is a designated area for handicapped parking near the gate. Secure parking is provided for motorcycles and RVs. Ample lots are located on McCall Blvd, on the west side of the airport off Hwy 76/Palmetto St.
